On January 22, the year 2010 Parkes was signed by Burton Albion on a one-month loan deal to reduce their injury burden and made his debut on the same day, playing the entire 90 minutes during Burton’s comeback win against Torquay United. The 30th January Parkes signed a contract extension to keep his stay to Burton until the conclusion in the season 2009-10.

The 2015–16 season saw Parkes struggle to hold down a regular place in the side as Mark McChrystal and Tom Lockyer were generally favoured in the centre back positions. Rovers went on to secure back-to-back promotions to League One following a 92nd minute winning goal from Lee Brown.
