Luginbill was the quarterback of choice at three universities during his four- year playing career. He enjoyed varying levels of success, to a championship in the national league, to an unbeaten season. He played football at Palomar College (Juco) from 1992 to 1993, and he racked up 21 wins. The year 1993 was when Luginbill guided Palomar to win the National Junior College championship and an impressive 11-0 record and was selected as an All-Star team All- American from the Junior College Athletic Bureau. Luginbill also established the all-time junior national school record in passing at Palomar Junior College, becoming the most sought-after junior college athlete across the country. Luginbill still holds numerous Team records from Palomar (as as of the 26th of January 2010, 2010).
The moment the XFL was established during 2001 Luginbill returned to assist his father as assistant coach of League champion Los Angeles Xtreme. The QB was his coach of the league’s MVP Tommy Maddox prior to Maddox being reinstated into his home league, the National Football League. Luginbill was then promoted to The NFL working with The Dallas Cowboys and then the AFL’s Dallas Desperados as the offensive coordinator as well as the player director of personnel. Luginbill was then offered a new head coach position at the Detroit Fury in 2002 before the team was shut down in 2004. He would then finish his season as a coach for the Fury before going to work for Scouts Inc. as an NFL personnel assessor, which has resulted in his current position as the Director of National Recruiting for ESPN’s college football recruitment services Scouts Inc.

Luginbill then moved into Georgia Tech and won the starting quarterback spot in 1994 over Donnie Davis, who had been in the starting lineup for all eleven games during the previous year. Luginbill’s first head coaching job was for af2’s Tennessee Valley Vipers in 2000 where he was a 25-year-old head coach that lead his team to the ArenaCup championship in their inaugural season.
