Dr . Thomas Anthony “Tom” Lewis, OAM (born 1958) is an Australian writer, historian of the military editor, teacher and an ex-marine officer. Since 1989, he has been a writer. Lewis was teacher at high schools and served as a navy officer during 20 years. He saw active duty at Baghdad as part of the Iraq conflict, as well as serving in East Timor. On June 3, 2003 Lewis got the Medal of the Order of Australia for his outstanding contribution in the Royal Australian Navy, particularly in the promotion of Australian naval history.
Dr. Lewis was also the Lead Historian in The Territory Remembers, a initiative by The Northern Territory Government to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the very first attack in Australia at the time of the Second World War.
In late 2013 Lewis was elected to the Chairmanship of the Order of Australia Association (NT) for a three-year term, which was renewed in 2016. In 2015 he was appointed the Chairman of the Northern Territory Place Names Committee for three years, and in 2018 he was elected an alderman of the City of Palmerston. Lewis is also currently a teacher in the Northern Territory.
