Thomas Linn Dinwoodie (born November 15th 1954) is an inventor, entrepreneur and cleantech entrepreneur and the founder of SunPower Corporation Systems (formerly PowerLight Corporation). Dinwoodie has been involved for a long time in the acceleration of the transition to renewable energy sources and other sustainable practices for the environment. Dinwoodie is also an architect.
Dinwoodie later created PowerLight Corporation in 1994, and served as the company’s Chairman and CEO of the Board from 1995 until 2007. PowerLight was a major global producer supplier, distributor, and system integrator of solar solutions and services to the commercial, residential and utility industries. In 2004 PowerLight was admitted into the INC 500 Hall of Fame. PowerLight was merged into SunPower Corporation in 2007, which was where Dinwoodie was CTO and then CEO of SunPower Corporation, the subsidiary. SunPower Corporation, Systems. SunPower manufactures high-efficiency solar cells and modules.
Dinwoodie is or has been an advisor to, Board Member, seed investor or founder of a range of clean-tech startups, spanning wind and solar technologies, electric transportation, off-grid micropower, financial services, and clean utilities. These companies include AllPower Labs, Ethical Electric, Etrion Corporation, Fenix Int’l, Keystone Tower Systems, Mosaic, MyDomino, NEW GmbH, NEXTracker, PowerLight, SCOOT, Sistine Solar, Sungevity, SunPower Systems,Solar Grid Storage, and TDEnergy.
He was the Founder, President as well as CEO for TDEnergy which was a wind power producer located in the U.S. Northeast, from 1982 until 1988. TDEnergy was one of the first New England wind power facilities in Canaan, NH.
