Rod Coronado is one of the most popular and richest Environmentalist who was born on July 3, 1966 in San Jose, California, United States. Rodney Adam Coronado, born July 3, 1966, is an eco-anarchist from Native America (Pascua Yaqui), and animal rights activist. He is an activist and ex- activist for the Animal Liberation Front, and a spokesperson of the Earth Liberation Front. He was a crew member with the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society, and a member the Earth First editorial collective! Journal. Coronado was sentenced to prison in 1995 for arson attack at Michigan State University research facilities. The damage caused by the attack, which resulted in $125,000 in loss and 32 years of research data being destroyed.

Coronado, who was being held for felony conspiracy, and awaiting trial on additional charges, expressed a shift in his personal philosophy after becoming father. He wrote in an open letter that he didn’t want to be asked how to set fire to a building. Ask me how I grow watermelons, or how to explain the natural world to children.” He explained that he wanted to be remembered as “not a man of destruction” but as a human believer and advocate for peace and love for everyone. In December 2008, he was released from probation. However, he was again imprisoned for four months for accepting a “friend request” on Facebook from Mike Roselle, an environmental activist. This was considered a violation to his probation.

In September 2006, Coronado sent an open letter to supporters from his prison cell in Florence, Arizona, before his release on March 23, 2007. In the letter, he announced his commitment to social change through non-destructive means. Citing his desire to raise his young son without teaching him that “violence is a necessary evil”, Coronado expressed hope that others in the earth and animal liberation movements would consider more peaceful methods:

In August 2010, Coronado was sentenced to four months in federal prison in Michigan for violating the terms of his probation. Coronado, who had been on parole since his release from prison, joined the social networking site Facebook. He was sentenced for the use of an unauthorized computer, and for “friending” former Earth First! co-founder Mike Roselle. Coronado entered the Federal Correctional Institution in Milan, Michigan on September 16. He was released January 14, 2011.

Coronado was charged with demonstrating an incendiary device in public at a Hillcrest neighborhood gathering in San Diego in February 2006. Indirectly, the indictment refers to an August 1, 2003 San Diego fire that caused damage of $50 million. The ELF initials were found on a banner that was found at the scene. Coronado, who is a self-described “unofficial ELF spokesperson,” spoke 15 hours later about militant environmental activism in San Diego. He explained how to make incendiary device. Investigators don’t consider him to be a suspect in the start of the fire. He has denied any involvement in it.
