Tom Denniss is one of the most popular and richest Australian entrepreneur who was born on February 24, 1961 in Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia. Denniss was born in the year 1961, in Wollongong which is located about 80 km north from Sydney, Australia. He was a student at Warilla North School between 1966 until 1973, in addition to Lake Illawarra High School from 1974 until 1979. He also was elected President of the Student Council at the high school in 1979. From 1980 until 1982, Denniss earned a degree from Mathematics in the University of Wollongong as well as a diploma in education in Education from the University of New South Wales in 1983.
In 1978, when he was 17, Denniss was selected as a reserve for the NSW Combined High Schools Rugby League team. The following year, Denniss was selected to play in the first grade of the Warilla Lake South Gorillas, a team of rugby league players during the NSW South Coast Rugby League competition. He was a regular First Grader up to his departure from the sport in the late year of 1982. That following year he was chosen to join the NSW Country Team in the NSWRL’s annual City against Country match. Denniss is also known as the most prolific scorer of tries during the South Coast competition in 1980 and 1981 for the “Warilla Gorillas”.
From 1994 to 1999, Denniss worked at Macquarie Bank, a leading Australian investment bank.[9]
In 1997, Denniss founded Energetech Australia Pty Ltd, which was renamed Oceanlinx in 2007. At a ceremony in Hawaii in 2007, Denniss was the first person to be inducted into the International Ocean Energy Hall of Fame as an ocean energy pioneer.[1]
Denniss has also sprinted 100m at 10.90 seconds (24 July 1978) and 100km in 9 hours, 26 minutes 12 seconds (2 May, 2008). There is speculation that Denniss is the only one to ever run 100 meters under 11 secs as well as 100km within less than eleven hours. Denniss also took home his first race in 2015, the Icarus Ultrafest 12 hour race in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, and was 3rd overall in the 250km six-day Great Red Race in Australia’s Simpson Desert in June 2017.

Tom Denniss (born 24 February 1961) is an Australian athlete as well as an inventor, scientist, and an entrepreneur. A doctor of mathematics and Oceanography. Denniss played in the professional league of rugby as a finalist for the Australian of the Year Award and, in 2013, set a record in the world for the fastest Circumnavigation of Earth on foot. In October of 2016, Denniss co-founded Wave Swell Energy using a technology which is expected to make the use of wave energy commercially feasible at first.
Denniss was a part of the Warilla North Primary School 4 100-metre relay team, which was awarded the state title three times in succession. New South Wales state titles from 1971 until 1973. He set State records for the year 1971 (Junior Boys 57.4 sec) and 1973 (Senior Boys 52.7 sec). He was also a part of the Lake Illawarra High 15 years 4 100-metre relay team in 1976, which took home the New South Wales Combined High Schools state title in record time (45.4 seconds).
Initially a high school maths teacher, Denniss taught at Newtown High School in Sydney from 1984 to 1990. While working at Newtown High, he attended UNSW part-time during 1988/89, obtaining a First Class Honours degree in Science.[4] In 1990 Denniss left teaching to pursue a PhD in Mathematics and Oceanography at the same university. While completing his doctorate, from 1990 to 1994, he was an Associate Lecturer in the School of Mathematics at UNSW.[1][7]
