Collen quit his position at the University of Arkansas in 1997 to accept the head coach position for Colorado State University. Colorado State went to the NCAA Tournament four times in five seasons under his direction. In 1999, the team made it to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen, and Collen was named the coach of the year. The percentage of his wins was 79.6 percent (129 winnings, 33 loss) was fourth in Division I women’s basketball coaches at the time.
On March 11, 2003, the University of Louisville hired Collen as women’s basketball head coach; this was the second time athletic director Tom Jurich hired Collen to that position after doing the same at Colorado State in 1997. During Collen’s four seasons, Louisville had an 87–37 record and made the NCAA tournament three times.
In 2007, Collen returned to Arkansas, this time as women’s basketball head coach. Under his leadership the team began the 2007 season with a school record 15 consecutive wins.
Then, in 1993 relocated from his current home at the University of Arkansas, where the position was as an coordinator of recruiting and assistant coaches until 1997. He was promoted to assistant coach for the final two seasons. In the year following his departure the team, the Arkansas team reached the final Four at the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship. Arkansas women’s athletic director Bev Lewis stated that “his reputation as a recruiter is among the best in the country.”

Thomas Duane Collen (born December 21 1953) is an American college basketball coach, who was most recently the head women’s basketball coaching for the University of Arkansas.
Collen first began coaching with Miami University in 1981, which he coached for three years. He was an assistant head coach for the University of Utah from 1984 until 1986, as well as at his current position at Purdue University from 1986 to 1993.
After the 2001–2002 season, Collen accepted a position at Vanderbilt University but resigned the next day over a discrepancy discovered on his resume. He had listed two master’s degrees from Miami University, but Miami had reported only one degree in two subjects. Miami later acknowledged its mistake. By then both Vanderbilt and Colorado State had new head coaches. Collen took a year off from coaching, working as a television commentator and a consultant for the WNBA.
