Smith served as the primary vocalist and songwriter of the multi-genre metal group Dog Fashion Disco from 1996 until 2007 and remained in the same role after the band was reformed in the year 2011 and continues to perform until today. Smith also contributed guitar and vocal work for the album The Exotic Sound that was released by the Alter Boys from the Ohio-based group The Alter Boys. On February 18 2007 Smith began a new musical project dubbed Polkadot Cadaver, announced shortly after the split of Dog Fashion Disco. Another project called Knives Out! was founded in 2008 and each band is comprised of Jasan Stepp (of Dog Fashion Disco). The band has released three albums by Polkadot Cadaver, and two albums were released along with Knives Out!

“Left in the Lurch” is Knives Out! The band’s second album of debut was released on the 19th of August 2016.

Smith is also releasing a 3 solo albums under the moniker El-Creepo! The first album came out in 2009, and was appropriately named El-Creepo!. The album’s style is different from his work with other bands, focusing on Acoustic guitars and gentle harmony. Smith started writing and recording his new El- Creepo! album alongside Polkadot Cadaver drummer Scott Radway in March 2012. The second album by Scott Radway Aloha was released on 13 November 2012. The third album, the most recent one entitled Bellissimo! was released on January 1st, 2016.
