Moskowitz was born on the 21st of July in West Lafayette, Indiana, where his father was an instructor in management of Purdue University. Moskowitz completed his studies at West Lafayette Junior-Senior High School in 1989. After that, he went to Purdue where he graduated with an B.S. in industrial management as well as industrial engineering (with distinction) in 1993. He also earned an M.S. in management in 1994. He was awarded an Ph.D. in Finance from The University of California, Los Angeles Anderson School of Management in 1998.
In 2011 Moskowitz as well as the coauthor L. Jon Wertheim published Scorecasting the book which employs statistical as well as other empirical research findings to examine the conventional wisdom of sports.
Moskowitz received the 2000 Smith-Breeden Award for his article “Home Bias at Home: Local Equity Preference in Domestic Portfolios” (with Joshua Coval) which was that was released by The Journal of Finance and the 2005 Brattle Prize, second prize with the paper “Testing Agency Theory with Entrepreneur Effort and Wealth” (with Marianne P. Bitler and Annette Vissing-Jorgensen) and that was released in The Journal of Finance. He also received the both the 2004 as well as the 2005 Michael Brennan Award prizes for research papers published within the Review of Financial Studies. His paper from 2004 entitled “Informal Financial Networks: Theory and Evidence” (with Mark Garmaise) was awarded first place as well as his 2005 paper, “Confronting Information Asymmetries: Evidence from Real Estate Markets” (with Garmaise) was second.

Tobias Jacob “Toby” Moskowitz (born 3rd February 1971) is an American financial economist, and is an instructor in the Yale School of Management. Moskowitz was awarded 2007’s American Finance Association (AFA) Fischer Black Prize, awarded to the most renowned scholar in finance younger than 40 years old.
Moskowitz is a professor in the Booth School of Business Booth for the past year. Moskowitz has published numerous research papers with awards, and was elevated into full professor status in the year 2005. He was the Professor of Finance and Neubauer Family Faculty Fellow at the Booth School of Business. In 2007, he was the 2nd recipient of The Fischer Black prize.
In 2016, Moskowitz joined the faculty at the Yale School of Management.
