Timothy James Welke (born August 23rd 1957) is an ex- American professional professional baseball umpire. He was a member of the American League from 1984 to 1999. He was an umpire all through Major League Baseball from 2000 until 2015. He was an umpire since the year 2000. Welke was wearing number 30 when his time on in the American League staff, then changed to number 3 when that the AL as well as the National League umpiring staffs merged in 2000. The brother of Bill is also an umpire for the Major Leagues. Tim has been an umpire in the four World Series, seven League Championship Series and Eight Division Series and two All-Star Games.

Welke was an umpire in World Series umpires in World Series in 1996, 2000 2003, and the World Series in 2008. He also played in on the League Championship Series in 1991 1998, 2001 2002 2006, 2011, and 2001 and in the Division Series in 1995, 1996 1999, 2000 2003, 2008, 2010 and 2013. He was the Crew chief of the NLCS in 2004 and 2006, as well as the ALCS in 2011, and in the ALDS between 1995 and 2000. He also served as responsible for crew control for the 2008 World Series. He also umpired The All-Star Game in 1990, 2005, and in 2015.

Welke was also the first base umpire for Roy Halladay’s perfect game on May 29, 2010; coincidentally, his brother Bill worked at third base that same game.

In a May 2, 2012 game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Colorado Rockies at Coors Field, Welke made a controversial out call at first base against Jerry Hairston, Jr. though first baseman Todd Helton’s foot came well off the bag. Welke later admitted that he had missed the call. Hairston subsequently defended Welke and described him as “a really good umpire for a long time.”

Welke was ejected Atlanta Braves manager Bobby Cox during sixth game of the 1996 World Series, the most recent World Series ejection.

Umpire for youth baseball at the age of 16 Welke started his umpiring career in minor leagues in 1977. He was a part of his time in the Gulf Coast League (1977), Florida State League (1978-79), Eastern League (1980), American Association (1981-83), Florida Instructional League (1977-80) and Dominican Winter League (1981-83) prior to his major league debut in 1984.
