Tim Kasher is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on August 19, 1974 in Omaha, Nebraska, United States. Timothy J. Kasher (born on 19th August 1974) is a musician from Omaha, Nebraska, and is the lead singer of the Indie rock groups Cursive as well as The Good Life, both of which are signed to the record label based in Omaha, Saddle Creek Records.

A Pitchfork reviewer Taylor Clark once described Kasher’s singing voice as “perhaps the worst great voice in indie rock,” noting his difficulty when singing with a range as well as his poor enunciation. Kasher’s voice is widely acknowledged as the signature element of the Cursive sound. Kasher’s songwriting gets the same interest, especially the album of 2003, The Ugly Organ, which offered a reflective look of the process of songwriting itself. Kasher’s side of the story is that Kasher has stated that the majority of the inspiration for his grand ideas on his own solo records comes in the form of David Bowie. Kasher mentions Bowie as a major influence in helping him “wake me up to, well, you can do whatever you want. I mean, you’re doing a solo record. You can go in absolutely any direction.” Prior to that Kasher’s lyrics for albums shifted more towards a screenplay-style of writing, even to the point of the lyrics sheet for I Am Gemini being described by the words of one reviewer “a full-blown libretto.”

After using The Good Life as essentially a side project, Kasher decided to make The Good Life a full-fledged band. Kasher recruited Ryan Fox, Roger Lewis, and Stefanie Drootin-Senseney and released Album of the Year in 2004. Despite his intention to make The Good Life a band in its own right, Kasher still retained most creative control over the band for much of Album of the Year and similarly for 2007’s Help Wanted Nights, described by Pitchfork’s Eric Harvey as “two consecutive concept albums dealing with boozers and their second homes.”

Cohn departed Cursive in 2005, and the band continued on without a cellist. Cursive has subsequently recorded and released three more studio albums, also concept albums – a style that Kasher began loosely with The Storms of Early Summer: Semantics of Song and developed full-blown with Domestica. Cursive’s last release was Vitriola in 2018.

The Good Life was originally intended to be a solo project by Kasher. Kasher wanted to play around with various kinds of songs and lyrics. The album was released by Novena On A Nocturn under the title The Good Life Better Looking Records in 2000 the same year, just only five years after the release of Cursive’s Domestica. Novena on a Nocturn explored the same themes as Domestica and was primarily about loss and divorce, and was praised by critics for the intense focus Kasher put on his lyrics and his personal story telling. Black Out, released in 2002 Black Out was also a mostly solo album with friends who were part of the recording process, and was released through Saddle Creek Records. Like Novena The album was notable for its emphasis on melody and lyrics. Dan Ocean of Punk News calling the album “a slower paced Cursive with some electronica and an abundance of hooks.”

Slowdown Virginia was formed in Omaha in 1993 by Kasher along with Matt Maginn, Steve Pedersen along with Casey Caniglia after the dissolution of the band previously known as The March Hares. They have a sound that is described as a heartland pave and into the Pixies Slowdown Virginia recorded and released one album, Dead Space, on Lumberjack Records, with the aid of funds from friends. The band was a short-lived affair disbanded in 1995. But it influenced others to form bands in Omaha such as The Faint and Bright Eyes and the creation of Saddle Creek Records out of Lumberjack Records, and the name of Omaha’s independent music place, Slowdown.

Kasher, Maginn, and Pedersen formed a new group, Cursive, in 1995 and added Clint Schnase to the band. Cursive released two albums that were described as a riot of emotion and distortion after which they disbanded in 1998 when Kasher relocated into Portland, Oregon after getting married. Kasher also spent a portion of the period playing the guitar with Commander Venus, recording and releasing two albums. Pedersen quit Omaha to pursue law studies in Duke University in North Carolina shortly thereafter.

Kasher’s marriage and time away from Omaha didn’t last long; he returned within eighteen months of leaving Cursive and Omaha. With Pedersen away, Kasher recruited Ted Stevens to join the previous other band members. The re- formed Cursive soon recorded and released their third album, Domestica, at Presto! Studios in Omaha, using the stock room of the USA Baby store where Kasher worked as the band’s practice space. Domestica showed this version of Cursive to have a tight-knit, hard-rock sound with the addition of Stevens as well as Kasher’s newfound focus on introspective, storytelling focused lyrics. Cursive added cellist Gretta Cohn for the next several releases and the band, and Kasher’s writing, found critical success with 2003’s The Ugly Organ, a “gale force” of “personal indigence.”
