Thepchai Yang (Thai: ethphchay hy`ng ; born 22 April , 1955) is an Thai journalist for television and newspapers. He is famous for his reports on corruption as well as his critique of the government of Suchinda Kraprayoon as well as Thaksin Shinawatra.

The year 2005 was the time that Thepchai Yiong was granted the Nieman Fellowship from Harvard University’s Nieman Foundation for Journalism. He also received an award called the Human Rights Press Award of Amnesty International.

Thepchai Yong became Managing Director of the Thai Public Broadcasting Service—a government entity which replaced iTV—in 2008. until 2012 he return to Nation Group again.

After departing from iTV, Thepchai Yong helped to found The Thai Broadcast Journalists Association in 2001. He served as its president between 2002 and 2004. At the time, The Nation, with which Thepchai Yong was involved, was reported to be under pressure from The government under Thaksin Shinawatra. In 2003, the Thai-language publication Kom Chad Luek came under pressure to not run an article that claimed Panthongtae Shinawatra, the prime minister’s son had been found cheating in a college test; Thepchai Yong ran the story on its front page. Thepchai Yoong began his journalistic career in the early 1980s as a proofreader for Thai English-language newspaper The Nation. He was eventually promoted to the post as editor, a post that he held throughout The 1991 “Black May” democratic uprising against the military regime that was headed by General Suchinda Kraprayoon. In spite of military pressure Thepchai Yong resisted the Suchinda government’s demand that The Nation to reduce their coverage on the demonstrations, and the ensuing violent retributions. His actions earned Thepchai Yong an International Press Freedom Award of the Committee to Protect Journalists later in the year.

From 1996 to 2000 Thepchai Yong was director of news for iTV the country’s first network of independent television. In that time he gained notoriety for his work in exposing corruption and political scandals. He also was anchor on the station’s primary newscast. After the elections of Thaksin Shinawatra however, the anchor was fired for his unflattering coverage on the telecoms giant of the Prime Minister Shin Corporation.
