Snelders was also a part of the Aberdeen team that defeated Rangers to take in the 1989 Scottish League Cup Final, however, he was defeated by the same opponents in the tournament’s two editions of 1988 and 1992 and at the 1993 Scottish Cup Final, and was the primary goalie as the Dons were runners-up to Rangers in the final five games of his seven league seasons.

A effective alternative to Jim Leighton, he had an excellent start to his time at Pittodrie where he was named his place as the Scottish PFA Players Player of the Year award in 1989. Anton Rogan’s penalty was saved for Aberdeen’s penalty shootout victory against Celtic at the time of the Scottish Cup Final.
Snelders was a part of the Dutch squad for the 1983 FIFA World Youth Championship. The only time he made an international appearance on March 22nd, 1989, in a match against his country’s Soviet Union. He managed to keep a clear sheet as the Dutch defeated the Soviet Union 2-0, the goals resulted from the Marco van Basten diving header and a Ronald Koeman penalty. Snelders was a substitute who was not used for the Dutch team in 1994’s World Cup.
Having fallen behind Watt in the Aberdeen order, Snelders moved on to rivals Rangers for £300,000 in early 1996. As a confirmed backup player, initially to Andy Goram followed by Lionel Charbonnier then Stefan Klos, he made just 18 appearances for the Glasgow club (two in the UEFA Champions League against Dutch side Ajax) before he was released in 1999. He played two seasons at MVV before he retired from playing and became a goalkeeping coach in his native Netherlands with FC Twente.
