After breaking his cheekbone during an accident in a collision with Ally McCoist of Rangers in 1991, he was unable to play for the crucial winner- takes-all game with the Gers in the month of May the same year, with inexperienced assistant Michael Watt unable to prevent an 2-0 loss. Snelders was also a part of the Aberdeen team that defeated Rangers to take in the 1989 Scottish League Cup Final, however, he was defeated by the same opponents in the tournament’s two editions of 1988 and 1992 and at the 1993 Scottish Cup Final, and was the primary goalie as the Dons were runners-up to Rangers in the final five games of his seven league seasons.

As a confirmed backup player, initially to Andy Goram followed by Lionel Charbonnier then Stefan Klos, he made just 18 appearances for the Glasgow club (two in the UEFA Champions League against Dutch side Ajax) before he was released in 1999. He played two seasons at MVV before he retired from playing and became a goalkeeping coach in his native Netherlands with FC Twente.
