Klarides has been elected to be a member of the House of Representatives as a Republican in 1998, from the 114th District. She represents three towns: Derby, Orange and Woodbridge. She has been elected to the House each time since. She was deputy Minority leader from 2007 until 2014, at which point she was chosen by the members of her caucus to be one of the women to be the leader of the House Republicans beginning from the session of 2015. Since becoming House Minority Leader, she has been a leading advocate for House Minority Leader of the House, she has emerged as an influential advocate for fiscal restriction regulation reform, the creation of jobs along with tax reduction. She has been a vocal advocate for Governor Malloy as well as his Democratic fiscal policies which have led to two highest tax increases in the history of the state.
Since 2006, she has been on the Griffin Hospital’s Board of Directors and in 2016 she was appointed second Vice-Chairman.
Rep. Klarides has received several awards from Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD), and received their Government Leaders Against Drunk Driving Award in 2016 for her efforts in passing legislation aimed at tightening restrictions against drunk driving offenders.
