Tharon started swimming at age 9 years old. He was a member of the Hobbs High School and the Caprock Swim Team and Caprock Swim Team, both located within Hobbs, New Mexico. In November 2007 Drake was diagnosed with amnesia, which was the result of routine vaccines. It was discovered that a genetic issue caused a decline in his immune system and his body wasn’t able to combat the virus that were triggered by the vaccines. With the help of medication, Drake was able to beat the condition of amnesia. When he was in February of 2008 Drake observed some alteration in his vision. in his June 2008 birthday, he was completely blind and had no perception of light.

Drake took part at Drake’s participation in the 2017 World Para Swimming Championships which took place at Mexico City, Mexico. Drake took home gold at the time of 400m Freestyle S11 with a finish time of 4:54.30 and a silver medal for the 100m Breaststroke SB11 with a final time of 1:15.70 and an silver medal for the 200m Individual Medley SM11 with a in 2:41.70.

In the 2016 Paralympic Games, Drake won the Silver medal for the race of 400m Freestyle S11. Drake’s final time was 4:40.96 and was just a fraction slower than USA teammates Brad Snyder. Drake also took home the bronze medal for the breaststroke 100m SB11 with the time of 1:11.50.
