Jackson was a student at P.K. Yonge High School in Gainesville where he was a an outstanding athletically on the P.K. Yonge Blue Wave high school basketball and football teams. In football, he was a player at various positions, including fullback, strong safety linebacker, and tailback. His older brother Willie Jackson, Jr. played All-American wide receiver with the Florida Gators and played in the NFL.

It was the San Francisco 49ers selected Jackson in the fifth round (157th selection all-around) in 1999’s NFL Draft, and he was a part of the 49ers for the entirety of his seven-year NFL career, from 1999 until 2005. Jackson was an excellent inside runner and showed astonishing speed and strength when he was able to break through the line. Jackson was used primarily as a receiver or blocker from the backfield in third downs. Jackson could also be a solid special teams player, and was captain for the special teams group for a number of years. Jackson played a small part in the offense during the final two NFL seasons.
