Since July 2007, she has served as an ombudswoman in the Republic of Austria. Before that , she was the longest-serving members of parliament for her party.

On June 30, 2007, she resigned from The National Council, taking over the position of Ombudswoman in the Republic of Austria the next day. Stoisits has been the only official of The Greens elected to the position.

Stoisits attended High School in Gussing and passed her maturity test in 1977. She was a law student at University Vienna, graduating with the degree of master’s in 1985. The following year, she was a part of a judiciary-related internship. Stoisits was part of the Austrian delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (in 2000) and also of the Austria Convent (deliberating from 2003 until 2005 on the need for a reform of the state). Stoisits was appointed as a member of the Board of the National Fund of the Republic of Austria for Victims of National Socialism and also the Versohnungsfond the Versohnungsfond, an Austrian fund to compensate of labourers who were forced to work under Nazi-era Nazi regime.
