Following his departure after his departure from Reading, Vancooten spent several weeks in League Two side Stevenage, taking part in every one of the Hertfordshire club’s first pre-season matches. The trial went well and he was signed on the one-year deal, which comes with an option to extend it for another year on the 18th of July 2017. After joining this club Vancooten said “I can’t wait to learn off everyone and improve myself as a player. I have already taken in so much. Both the players and management have been brilliant for me so I am confident I am at the right place”. Vancooten first made his pro Football League debut on 26 August 2017 when he came in as an 83rd-minute substitute, as the ten-man Stevenage managed to hold on for the 1-0 victory away to Barnet, a local club. Barnet. After being able to establish himself in the first-team for the subsequent couple of months Vancooten agreed to the “improved and extended” contract with Stevenage in the month of October in 2017. The player made 24 appearances in the season 2017-18.
Vancooten played just nine times up during the first half of the 2018–19 season. Having not played for over three months, he returned to the first-team when he played the whole match in Stevenage’s 2–0 away win at Grimsby Town on 6 April 2019. Vancooten received a PFA Community award in April 2019 for his contribution in the local community in Stevenage. He went on to play every minute of the club’s last six matches of the season, of which they won five and drew one, as Stevenage missed out on a play-off place after finishing in tenth position in League Two. He made 15 appearances during his second season with the club.
In October of 2017 Vancooten was selected in the squad of Guyana during a friendlies game in Grenada. The match began on the 7th of October and it ended with the loss of 1-0. Vancooten was selected in Guyana’s 23-man team of the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the first time the country has played an international championship of this magnitude. Vancooten was a part of all three games played by Guyana in the tournament, finishing in third position among their groups.

Vancooten’s career began in the league of Hampton & Richmond Borough, prior to joining the youth program at Leatherhead and playing in the West Surrey U16 league. At Leatherhead that Vancooten was approached by Brentford who then invited him to join West London team in the year 2014 following an extremely successful trial. After a brief stint at Brentford and then joining Staines Town at academy level in the beginning of 2014, where was also a member of his club the Middlesex FA. He did well with the youth team and then was able to play in the first team during the 2015-16 season. He played an average of 10 appearances across every competition.
After a few stints at different youth academy, Vancooten re-joined Staines Town in 2014 and made his way into the first-team in the 2015-16 season. Vancooten joined Championship club Reading during the summer of 2016 and was loaned for Billericay Town and Basingstoke Town while he was there. He joined Stevenage in July of 2017. Vancooten was also recognized as a player for Guyana as a Guyana representative in the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup.
He signed for Championship side Reading ahead of the 2016–17 campaign, and was placed in their U23 development squad for the season. After a handful of appearances for the U23s, Vancooten was loaned out to Billericay Town in November 2016 for the remainder of the year. He made five appearances for Billericay before returning to his parent club. Vancooten was loaned out once again on 25 February 2017, this time joining Southern League Premier Division side Basingstoke Town for the rest of the 2016–17 season. He made nine appearances for Basingstoke before returning to Reading at the end of the campaign. At the end of the season, Vancooten was released by Reading.
