Tendai Mzungu (born 28 February, 1986) is an ex- Australian rules player, who played with Fremantle Football Club and Greater Western Sydney Giants in the Australian Football League (AFL). Mzungu played for his club Perth Football Club in the West Australian Football League (WAFL) before being drafted to Fremantle at the close in the season of 2010 making his first appearance with Fremantle the following season.
Tendai Mzungu was a player as a player for Fremantle at 2013, the AFL Grand Final against Hawthorn Fremantle’s first Grand Final in their history. In the second half, Mzungu scored Fremantle’s first goal of the game.
Mzungu has been Fremantle’s team runner and inaugural Next Generation Academy coach since the 2018 AFL season.
Mzungu was a good player for Fremantle during their 2011, NAB Cup pre-season games and was expected to replace injury-stricken Roger Hayden in Fremantle’s backline. But in the final preseason game, he injured his knee’s medial ligament. He returned to the field 10 weeks later, only to be drafted directly into the AFL and not for Perth to play in the WAFL. The first time he played for Fremantle was during the Round 9 match held at AAMI Stadium against Port Adelaide in which Fremantle beat with 52 points. He was picked as a substitute player , and only played in the final quarter, replacing Hayden Ballantyne who suffered from an injured hip (quadriceps rupture).

The family was born in Melbourne to an Zimbabwean father as well as an Australian mother, Mzungu moved to Perth, Western Australia, at the age of nine. He was a student at Kent Street Senior High School and also played amateur football at the Trinity Aquinas Football Club. In the Perth Football Club’s recruiting zone of the WAFL, Mzungu made his debut as a senior with the club in the year 2006. He played 72 matches over five seasons, and won the Butcher Medal Perth’s best and most prestigious award in 2010 and he received 20 votes for the this year’s Sandover Medal.
It was reported that the Fremantle Football Club obtained Mzungu in the time of trade prior to that year’s AFL Draft, trading their 39th pick to the new Gold Coast club, in exchange for Mzungu as well as the 44th selection following his pre-listing at Gold Coast. Fremantle initially planned to list him as a rookie however they decided to acquire Mzungu through a trade following his excellent performance during the 2010 WAFL season.
He was delisted at the conclusion of the 2016 season, however, he was drafted by Greater Western Sydney in the 2017 rookie draft. After playing four games for Greater Western Sydney, Mzungu announced his retirement following their preliminary final exit to the 2017 AFL season.
