Teemu Tainio (Finnish pronunciation: [‘te’mu’tainio]born on 27 Nov 1979) is a Finnish football coach as well as a former player. He is currently the head coach at FC Haka. He started his coaching career with his club in the area TP-47 before moving into FC Haka in 1996. The following year the player moved into France in order to join Auxerre. After eight years after which he was signed by English team Tottenham Hotspur, where he was for an additional three seasons before joining Sunderland. After a loan stint for Birmingham City during the 2009-10 season, he made the move to Dutch club Ajax and then joined with the New York Red Bulls in 2011. Following two years playing in New York Red Bulls, and two seasons in the United States, he returned to Finland for the final season with HJK.

His 2nd Spurs goal on December 9 2006, and scored the third goal scored in the 5-1 victory at home over Charlton Athletic. The third time he scored for the club came in the form of an even score against West Ham to make the score 2-2 on the 4th March 2007. Spurs won the match 4-3.

He joined Sunderland on 23 July 2008 for an undisclosed fee. He became their first summer signing and the first Finnish player ever for Sunderland. He scored his first goal for Sunderland in a second round League Cup game at Norwich on 24 August 2009. He left Sunderland on 31 August 2010, when the club terminated his contract by mutual consent.

Tainio won the 2008 League Cup when Tottenham took a 2–1 extra-time win over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium in the final played on 24 February 2008. Tainio is a native of Tornio. The Tornio native was promoted to his hometown team TP-47 in Kakkonen Finland’s third division at fourteen. He was recruited as a player by Veikkausliiga the club FC Haka for the 1996 season. After a brief trial with Manchester United in March 1997, Tainio joined French club AJ Auxerre in 1997, and stayed for eight years at the club. He was awarded the Coupe de France with Auxerre twice, while also gaining UEFA Champions League experience. While at Auxerre, Tainio appeared in more than 204 official games and scored 19 goals.
