With the help of the Club for Growth, which spent over $285,000 to aid Budd’s campaign, he won his primary with 20% of the vote. He faced Bruce Davis, a former Guilford County Commissioner, in the general election. Budd won the election with 56% of the vote. He was sworn into office on January 3, 2017.
