Taylor Potts (born October 13 1987) is an ex- American football player. He played for the college team in the Texas Tech University. Texas Tech, and was accepted to the St. Louis Rams as an free agent who was not drafted in the year 2011. He was released during training camp. He was became a free agent from the San Diego Chargers in May 2012, and was scheduled to be a contender for the third quarterback position.

After fighting with Steven Sheffield for the starting quarterback spot in summer and spring practices, Potts was named the starting quarterback for in the season of 2010 under the new Red Raider head coach Tommy Tuberville and offensive coordinator Neal Brown. Potts had a hand injury during spring 2010 training sessions and was unable to participate in the spring Red-Black practice. But, he was selected as the Tech’s starter for their game opener, which was against SMU. Potts passed for 359 yards and completed 33 of 53 throws during Tech’s victory over SMU. Potts was the starting quarterback for Tech during the regular season, except for the game on Nov. 6 against No. 14 Missouri. Sheffield was the first to start the Missouri game but Potts arrived just after halftime and helped lead Tech in a 24-17 victory against the Tigers. Potts received the honor of being named AT&T/ESPN All-America Player of the Week after he threw for a record 462 Cotton Bowl yards in Tech’s win of 45-38 against Baylor at the end of October. 9. In his last home game against Houston on the 27th of November, Potts threw for 373 yards in a win of 35-20 against the Cougars. In the entire season, Potts finished with 3,726 passing yards and completed the ball on 369 out of 551 attempts (67.0 percentage) with 10 interceptions and 35 touchdowns. The final season of his career ended as Tech’s fourth-ranked leader for pass yards (7,835) and Tech’s third-ranked leader all-time in touchdown passes, with 62.

Potts went undrafted in the 2011 NFL Draft and was later signed by the St. Louis Rams on July 26, 2011, but was waived on August 15.

Texas Tech faced Northwestern in the inaugural TicketCity Bowl, played on January 1, 2011, in the historic Cotton Bowl stadium. Potts threw for 369 yards, completing 43 of 56 passes in Tech’s 45–38 win over the Wildcats. Potts connected with former high school teammate Lyle Leong Jr. for two touchdown and also had scoring passes to Austin Zouzalik and Tramain Swindall. Oklahoma Sooners and finished the season with a victory of 20-13 against Baylor Bears. Baylor Bears, giving Tech an overall record of 8-4 and 5-3 record in Big 12 play.
