Motter was a graduate of Palm Beach Gardens Community High School in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida and played in the NCAA baseball tournament on Coastal Carolina University in Conway, South Carolina. In the three seasons he played for the Chanticleers (2009-2011) He played in more than 187 games (185 games played) and scored .303 which included 18 home runs as well as 110 RBI with a slugging rate of .482. Motter was instrumental in leading Coastal Carolina to three consecutive Big South Conference baseball championships as well as 3 NCAA Regional appearances and one NCAA Super Regional appearance (2010). The year 2014 was the time he was named the winner of the Southern League All-Star Game after having a 3-3 record and the home hit. Motter received the honor of being named as one of the Durham Bulls’ 2015 team MVP after finishing top of the International League in doubles (43) and extra-base hits (58) third in the total base count (229) in slugging and percentage (.471) fourth for hits (142) and the percentage of on-base (.366) in addition to runs recorded (74) while 8th for the batting average (.292). The Rays included him on their 40-man roster following the season in 2015.
On May 28, 2018, Motter was claimed off waivers by the Minnesota Twins. Motter was designated for assignment on July 24, 2018 and released on August 22nd.
