Taurean Allen (born on February 15th 1987) is an ex-professional Canadian soccer defensive player who was a part of the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League (CFL). The Stampeders were selected by Allen during the 2nd round of 2010’s CFL Draft. Allen played in the NCAA football tournament for the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks. In the year 2010, Allen played in six regular season games for the Stampeders and recorded seven tackles. Allen was not able to play in the season of 2011 due to an injury and was released shortly after.

Starter safety Lysack was let go by the Stampeders during the offseason and a number of players competed with Allen to be the team’s starting point in the training camp, such as Eric Fraser, Milt Collins, Mark Holden, and Saleem Borhot. Allen’s season was cut short due to an injury to his groin, hip, and leg, which led the Stampeders to put Allen on the nine-game injured list prior to the start of the season. Allen did not participate during his 2011 campaign. The Stampeders let go of Allen in the offseason. The Leader-Post has Allen Cameron cited his injuries as the main reason for his comparatively quiet and short time in the CFL In his report, he said the injuries “slowed his development and sapped his confidence”.

In the months of September and Dec 2009 The CFL Scouting Bureau ranked Allen thirteenth on their list of the top prospectors for draft for the CFL Draft. Allen noticed his position rise to eighth following his invitation to attend the CFL testing camp located at Toronto’s University of Toronto. Before this draft Allen had been credited as the most efficient cornerback to be selected. Allen was selected by the Calgary Stampeders selected Allen in the second round of the 2010 CFL Draft with the 13th overall selection. After selecting Allen, Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel stated that Allen could be a cornerback but the team was going to try to move him into safety. Allen joined the Stampeders on May 17, 2010 , and spent the rest of the offseason with a few members of the team located in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

Allen played football in college in the collegiate level at Wilfrid Laurier’s University, where he was a defensive cornerback. As a rookie in 2007 Allen led the secondary with seven knockdowns and two interceptions. Allen was named a First-Team Ontario University Athletics (OUA) All-Star and second-team All- Canadian. Allen was selected to the OUA All-Star first team in 2008 and 2009. He majored in communications in Wilfrid Laurier. He also played in the CIS East West Bowl during his final year as a member of the Golden Hawks after recording 16.5 tackles as well as two pass deflections and an interception in 2009.

In training camp Allen was competing with Wes Lysack and Eric Fraser for the safety spot that he was starting in. Lysack as well as Fraser were deemed to be better opponents over Allen physically, however Allen was faster and more adept when it came to coverage. Allen was the first player to start the preseason game at safety but was in the field as a cornerback. This was his prior position. After being named to the roster for the regular season, Allen spent the month of July transferring removed from the roster, but playing in none of the games. Allen was able to make his CFL debut on July 31, 2010, in a win by 23-20 over The Winnipeg Blue Bombers, in which he played on the bench. Allen remained the majority the time either on the active list or on the practice squad during the entire season, only appearing on occasion. Allen was also unable to play due to an injury to his leg. Allen ended this season with seven tackles across six games. Allen’s contribution was mainly in special- teams, in which Allen made five of his tackles. Allen played in the West Final against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
