Kjaerleikens ferjereiser (19film, 1979); AnMagritt (1988; nominated to the Nordic Council Music Prize 2008); Wayfarers (19Landstrykere), 1989; the Steinvikholmen operetta Olav Engelbrektsson (1993); and the sacred operas Jesu siste dager (2000) and Eystein av Nidaros. He also has set to music poetry from Hans Hyldbakk, and hymns of Edvard Hoem.

Sommerro took his first lessons in piano and organ at the Music Conservatory, Trondheim, when he was sixteen years old. From 1970-1974 he studied organ at the Music Conservatory in Trondheim. He was also an organist in Todalen and Stangvik during that time. He studied composition and organ at the music school in Basel from 1976 to 1977. In 1978, he was appointed director of music at Teatret Vart in Molde. He was the director of music at Trondelag Teter from 1985-1990. He was also a music consultant to Norwegian radio (NRK P2) in the years 1986-1988. Since 1990 he has been a professor at the Department of Music of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (formerly the Trondelag Musikkonservatorium).
Sommerro was raised on the Sommerro farm in Skei, Surnadal. His name was made famous in 1977 by Varsog, a folk music group that recorded Hans Hyldbakk’s poem Varsog.
