The paternal grandpa, Aleksei Nikolaevich Tolstoy, was a pioneering writer of science fiction and the son of the Count Nikolay Alexandrovich Tolstoy (1849-1900) along with Alexandra Leontievna Turgeneva (1854-1906) and a descendant from Decembrist Nikolay Turgenev and the writer Ivan Turgenev. Her paternal grandmother was writer Natalia Krandievskaya. Mikhail Lozinsky (1886-1955), her maternal grandfather, was a famous literary translator who was famous in his work on the translation from Dante’s The Divine Comedy. Tolstaya’s sister Natalia was also a writer. The son of her, Artemy Lebedev, is the owner of Art. Lebedev Studio, a Russian web design firm.
