Tataee was born Vlad Irimia on October 17 1976 in Sebes the city of Alba County, central Romania Southern Transylvania. His father was mechanical engineer at various construction locations for hydroelectric power stations in Transylvania and his mother was an accountant. Irimia was a child in various blue-collar working colonies near to the different dams that his father was hired to work on. His mother, a professional singer, would sing at public events such as celebrations of baptisms and weddings and would also encourage younger Irimia to perform. In 1981, the family moved to Caransebes and later to Drobeta Turnu-Severin for the ultimately unfinished construction project called Iron Gates III, after which, in 1990 his father relocated the family back to Bucharest and there Irimia was the youngest of three children, went to school at Alexandru Ioan Cuza high school in Titan and quickly began to become aware of the violence of gangs, as well as developing an interest in math and chemistry. The college he attended was abandoned in the middle of his first semester, when he realized that it was keeping him from having the full-time music industry and concentrated on producing B.U.G. Mafia’s sophomore album.

Tataee started his music career as a solo performer and was later recognized as part of the Gangsta rapper group B.U.G. Mafia along with Alin “Uzzi” Demeter and Dragos “Caddilac” Vlad-Neagu, who he helped popularize making explicit lyrics a part of raps to expose the brutality of life on the streets. Their album from 1998 “De Cartier”, released under the name Cat Music in Romania led to them becoming one of the top-selling performers, and among the top revered Romanian hip-hop groups. In the later years of his career, he collaborated with Romanian artists like Akcent, Andreea Antonescu, Bitza, Cristina Spatar or Adriana Rusu. He was credited for their efforts to improve and change their style.

In 1997, Tataee provided vocals and produced several tracks on La Familia’s debut album, Băieți De Cartier (Hoodboys), paving the group’s way to hip hop superstardom in Romania and remaining a frequent collaborator until the feud that occurred between them in 2003. Later, in 1998, he produced XXL&10 Grei’s whole debut album, Personajul Negativ (The Bad Guy) and although the album sold poorly, it was met with unanimous positive reviews by music critics and fans as well, establishing Grasu XXL and his collaborator, Paco “10 Grei” as two of the most prominent figures in Romanian hip hop. The B.U.G. Mafia Prezintă Casa (B.U.G. Mafia Presents Casa) album, released February 20, 2002, featured songs by his group, B.U.G. Mafia, as well as by newly signed Casa artists and the single Cine E Cu Noi (Who’s With Us), intended as a new milestone in Romanian hip hop.

Following the success of B.U.G. Mafia’s Băieţii Buni in 2003, Tataee focused on producing music for various other artists. He started his own record label, Legend Audio, in 2002, as he assumed his role as a record producer and music executive. In 2005, he signed Romanian hip hop artist JerryCo who released his debut single in late 2009 following a four-year work period with Tataee on his first album, “Orice E Posibil” (Everything Is Possible), released in 2010 by Legend Audio in Romania.

B.U.G. recorded additional tracks in English creating their own beats, with assistance with Romeo Vanica, a well popular producer with an experienced keyboard. They performed their first live performance in an early Romanian hip-hop shows which was made possible by Bogdan “DJ Sleek” Untea, a well-known Romanian hip-hop DJ, and one of the very few Romanians to embark on this kind of career. In search of new rappers they met Demonii (“The Demons”) The Demons, one of the very few Romanian hip-hop teams to perform in Romanian in the early days. One of the group members were Alin Demeter, who was also known as drama Drama, and later, as Uzzi who became part of the band in 1995 . in the same year, that they changed the name of their group to Mafia so that the Romanian populace could become more familiar to their style. They also quit making lyrics written in English and changed to Romanian due to the same reason. In the summer of 1995, the band signed their very first official contract with a professional musician to create an album in collaboration together with Amma Sound.

Vlad Irimia (Romanian pronunciation: [‘vlad iri’mi.a] ; born on October 17th 1976) Most famously known under the nickname on stage Tataee ([ta’ta. (j)eTataee ) is known as a Romanian record producer as well as a musician, executive of the record as well as a music director. He is among the founders of the renowned Romanian hip-hop group B.U.G. Mafia and has also made albums and overseeing careers of a number of renowned Romanian hip-hop artists, including La Familia, XXL & 10 Grei, Mahsat and JerryCo. In his capacity as a producer the Mafia is often acknowledged with being one of the founders and pivotal figures in the creation of Romanian version of Gangsta rap, a type of music that is very similar to its American counterpart, but which also incorporates different local influences which are influenced by balkan and Balkan music or electronica.

Since Romania was an communist nation until late 1989 when western music was prohibited by Nicolae Ceausescu’s government and official hip-hop albums were difficult to locate on the Romanian market for music. Tataee himself admitted in an interview with CNN that he was familiar with rap music following the change in political system that took place during the political transition in Romania during 1989. Since a more liberal system of government replaced communist totalitarianism massive imitation of American music was seen in the Eastern European market. Inspired by Public Enemy and N.W.A, Tataee attempted to steer his career toward becoming a rapper, and began to work with his music. In 1993, when he first met his co-worker, Daddy Caddy, he had only released one single track and was not a professional in any way. In the official press announcement of B.U.G. Mafia says their first meeting was in the latter half of 1993, and recorded their first song together in 1994.

In the mid 90s Tataee started collaborating with Camil Beldeanu, a Romanian keyboardist who had worked with various Romanian artists and who went on to be one of the most prominent producers and arrangers to work with Romanian hip hop artists in the late 90s and early 2000s.

On the night of August 9, 2008, while driving from a B.U.G. Mafia concert from Periam to Lipova, Irimia tried to go around another vehicle and collided with a scooter, seriously injuring the man driving it. Police investigations concluded that Irimia did not take the necessary measures before overtaking the vehicle in front of him and, as the victim was rushed to the hospital with both legs and a few ribs broken, his driver’s license was suspended for three months and a criminal record was issued against him. The conclusions of the investigations were that, had the man driving the scooter not been wearing a helmet, he would have probably been killed in the accident, making Irimia liable for serious jail time. He went on to give details of an early 2008 incident when, driving from another concert, a truck lost control on the road passing their car by very closely. He turned a hard right and the fact that they crashed on the side of the road was actually what saved them from being seriously injured or even killed from colliding with the runaway truck.
