Tashi Tenzing is one of the most popular and richest Mountaineer who was born on November 30, 1965 in Khumbu, Nepal. Tashi Wangchuk Tenzing (Tibetan: bkr-shis-dbng-phyug-bstn-‘dzin- , Wylie: Bkra-shis Dbang-phyug Bstan-‘dzin) is a Nepalese Sherpa mountaineer. The youngest of his sons is Pem Pem and the oldest child of Tenzing Norgay. He completed the first ascent of Mount Everest on 29 May 1953.

On the 16th of May, 2007 He reached the top on Mount Everest from the Tibetan side.

Since leaving University Tashi has been almost solely employed in leading trekking and climbing trips in Nepal, Tibet, Pakistan, Kashmir and the Indian Himalaya. He has trekked widely in Nepal – especially the Everest region – and also in Kashmir, Ladakh, Sikkim and in the eastern Himalaya of Bhutan. Since his childhood he has emulated his grandfather’s love of mountain exploration and he has managed to maintain this quest by researching and leading many new treks and expeditions. However the desire to climb Everest has always been in Tashi’s heart and his passion for this never waned. He knew one day his time would come.

Tashi was born in Khumbu, Nepal and spent his some childhood in Darjeeling, the famed hill station and tea growing area in India. He attended St Paul’s School, Darjeeling – a private boarding school in the strict British tradition. He made quite a name for himself in the outdoor education field, excelling at distance and sprint running, soccer, cricket, gymnastics, karate, hockey and horse-riding as well as in more artistic pursuits such as oil painting and batik.

Tashi was able to climb the summit of Mount Everest for the second time in 2002.

In 1993, Tashi was the leader of in the forty-year Anniversary Everest Expedition to mark the 40th anniversary of the successful expedition led by his great-grandfather, Tenzing Norgay. The dream was finally achievable, and it became significant to him to his Sherpa supporters who backed Tashi to the fullest extent in this quest. While his team succeeded in bringing two of its climbers to summit the the 10th of May, his uncle and his climbing teammate, Lobsang Tshering, fell to his death during his descent down from the top. Tashi himself was unable to reach the summit by only 400m and had to return due to blindness to snow.

On the 23rd of May 1997, Tashi finally achieved getting to the summit of Everest the goal of his life was fulfilled and the path is now open to new adventures. In 1998/99, he worked for 9 months with the Australian Antarctic Division at Mawson Station in the Antarctic and is now planning to include guiding in this frozen wilderness to his travel job.

In May 2013 Tashi Tenzing said he believed his grandfather Tenzing Norgay should have been knighted, not just given “a bloody medal”. His cousin is actor Tenzing Norgay Trainor, best known as Parker in Liv and Maddie.
