Daniel was in the third qualifying round for his 2014 Australian Open, losing to Thomaz Bellucci. After qualifying for his first ATP event, he made in the semi-finals for the Chile Open, after gaining revenge against Bellucci and beating 8th seeds Federico Delbonis. At 2016 Davis Cup World Group first round in Birmingham, Japan faced defending champion Great Britain. He was defeated by world No. 2 Andy Murray in straight sets, and Japan lost 1–3.
In the 2013 Davis Cup World Group quarterfinal against the Czech Republic, Daniel was named to be the very first time in to the Japan Davis Cup team. Daniel has been selected for 2014’s US Open to make his Grand Slam main-draw debut, losing to fifth seed Milos Raonic in the first round.
