In the beginning of 1996, Inoue lobbied Tyrrell for an opportunity to drive however, the team decided to go with Ukyo Katayama, who had the Mild Seven sponsorship that came from Japan Tobacco. In the end Inoue was announced in January that he would be driving in Minardi. Minardi team. But one of his sponsors quit at the last moment and Inoue was forced to withdraw from F1. Minardi took on Giancarlo Fisichella instead. Fisichella was one of the teams test drivers back in 1995 was supported by Marlboro Italy.
After his retirement, Inoue has earned popularity for making jokes related to Formula One on his Twitter account, which has earned more than 65,000 followers as of May 2019. He is also known for his self-deprecating humor, as Inoue has publicly proclaimed himself as the “worst driver in Formula One”, admits that he initially had no idea what a pit stop is, and in an interview with the Top Gear magazine in 2015, states that he was “not good enough to drive in F1”.
Inoue is most likely remembered for two strange incidents during his time operating in Footwork back in the year 1995. The first incident occurred following the practice session at Monaco in which his car was hauled towards the pits, when it was struck by a course vehicle driver Jean Ragnotti, causing it to crash into the barriers. However, Inoue was able to race the following day. The second occurred during the Hungarian GP on live TV all over the world. In an attempt to aid the marshals to put out the fire in the engine that was threatening to stop him from participating in racing, the safety vehicle Tatra 623 that was driven towards the spot by the marshal struck him, causing injury to his leg. However, Inoue was able to recover for the following race.

Inoue is a native of Kobe. Inoue was a participant for his first British Formula Ford Championship in 1988. He then had an appearance as a member of All-Japan Formula Three from 1989 until 1993, and then a stint with the International Formula 3000 championship in 1994.
