Takashi Ishikawa is one of the most popular and richest Rikishi who was born on February 5, 1953 in Fujishima, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan. Takashi Ishikawa (Shi Chuan Xiao Zhi, Ishikawa Takashi born on February 5 1953) is a former professional wrestler as well as a sumo-wrestler who is from Fujishima, Higashitagawa District, Yamagata Prefecture, Japan.

In May of 1980, Ishikawa would return to AJPW full-time. He would go on to win five AJPW All Asia Tag Team Championships and twice together with Akio Sato, twice together with Ashura Hara. He also won two times in the company of Mighty Inoue, before retiring in the month of December 1988. His final match for AJPW was played on the 16th of December, teaming alongside Mighty Inoue in a victory over Motoshi Okuma and Haruka Eigen.

After SWS’s collapse, Ishikawa joined Tenryu in forming WAR. Soon after, the promotion was engaged in an inter-promotional war with New Japan Pro Wrestling. At NJPW’s Fantastic Story at Tokyo Dome on January 4, 1993, he lost to Tatsumi Fujinami. He would remain with WAR until September 1994. His last match with the promotion was on September 1, defeating Yamato.

In December 1994, he formed Tokyo Pro Wrestling. While wrestling and running TPW, he would also make overtures to Big Japan Pro Wrestling, Frontier Martial Arts Wrestling, Social Progress Wrestling Federation, Independent Wrestling Union, WAR, NJPW, and IWA Japan. In April 1996, he would win the TPW Tag Team Championship with Yoji Anjo. In June 1997, he would win the BJW Tag Team Championship with Kengo Kimura. Although he retired from active competition on January 19, 1998, he did wrestle a few matches for BJW in January 1999.

After returning the home country of Japan the month of November, Ishikawa took part in a wrestling tour for International Wrestling Enterprise, before returning to AJPW in December 1978. Then, in October of 1979, Ishikawa was transferred out for a trip to Puerto Rico for World Wrestling Council. Under the name of Mitsu Ishikawa, he took home his first title which was that of the WWC North American Tag Team Championship together with Haru Sonoda. In March of 1980 the pair would make a brief come back to Amarillo and win the NWA Western States Tag Team Championship together with Hugo Savinovich, before Savinovich quit the region after which he was replaced with Sonoda who made Ishikawa two-time champion.

He played baseball until senior high school but when he reached Sakata Minami High School, he made the switch to sumo, and took home in the section for high schools at the National Sports Festival. He was a sumo amateur champion studying at Nihon University, winning the All Japan Sumo Championships and the title of amateur yokozuna. Between 1975 and 1977, the sumo wrestler was in the Hanakago stable. He utilized the name of Onoumi. It was the status of being his stablemaster’s combat name. He was able to achieve the maegashira rank of 4 but was forced to quit when he was 24 due to complications from diabetes.

After quitting Sumo Ishikawa made the decision to be an professional wrestler. He joined All Japan Pro Wrestling. Giant Baba sent him to Pat O’Connor for training. After completing his training, he taken to the Funks territories within Amarillo, Texas, where the debut took place on November 8 1977 under the name of Takashi Onome. On January 28, 1978, the wrestler went into Kansas City for Central States Wrestling.

After a hiatus, Ishikawa returned to pro wrestling in September 1990 for Super World Sports, where he was part of Genichiro Tenryu’s Revolution stable and was the booker for the promotion. He would also wrestle with stars in the World Wrestling Federation. Unfortunately in June 1992, SWS collapsed.
