Hiroshima Toyo Carp of the Japanese league of Nippon Professional Baseball.
The year 2003 was a rough one for Takahiro. Takahiro dropped down to .236/.299/402 having 19 hits and league-leading 16 times he was ground into double plays, and hitting out more than 120 times in his primary position as a 1B. The time he played was reduced in 2004 but he rebounded to .263/.340/.424. Prior to the 2005 season the player spent three nights and four days in an Buddhist temple to improve to focus. He also re-evaluated his swing, and he improved dramatically and putting up an .305/.353/.603 line that included 43 homers, 91 runs and the 94th RBI and 326 bases total. He moved to third most of the time in the middle of the season, swapping places along with Kenjiro Nomura. The Japanese player was third in the Central League in slugging (behind Kanemoto) and was the leader of the league in errors and home runs (23). He scored home runs in six consecutive games, and tied the club record of Rick Lancellotti. He was named to his 2nd All-Star team as well as was the team’s initial Best Nine (at first instead of third as Makoto Imaoka was chosen at first). The brother of Ryota was picked that off-season.
Arai moved to the Hanshin Tigers as a free agent for the 2008 season and spent 7 years with club. At the end of the 2014 season, following a lackluster year that would see a decrease in his 2015 salary, Arai informed the Hanshin management of his intention to exercise his free agent rights, signaling the end of his time with the club.

He was a part of the 1998 Tohto University Baseball League. was a participant as a player in his first year in the Tohto University Baseball League and was 6 for 12 against an American NCAA All-Star team, securing his team’s RBI title. He was only able to hit a homerun twice in his college career. He was selected at the 6th round in the 1998 NPB draft by Hiroshima Carp, the team that he was a fan of as a youngster.

The next year, he batted .290/.351/.480 with 28 HR and 102 RBI. He tied Seung-yeop Lee for 6th in runs (84), tied Tyrone Woods for second in RBI (behind Ramirez), was 10th in home runs, third in strikeouts (136) and tied for second in double plays ground into (17), one behind Norihiro Nakamura.
