Taekjip Ha is one of the most popular and richest Biophysicist who was born on February 20, 1968 in Seoul, South Korea. Taekjip Ha employs advanced physical methods to manipulate and observe the movement of single molecules in order to comprehend fundamental biological processes that involve DNA, as well as various other molecules. He makes use of single-molecule techniques and has developed various methods for studying biological systems typically made possible by nano-mechanical devices like optical tweezers. He has been mentioned more than 18000 times , and the current H index is 64.

The year 2015 was the first time Taekjip Ha received a seat in both in the National Academy of Sciences and American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Ha is internationally recognized for his groundbreaking research in biophysics. In 2001 Ha was awarded the title of a Searle Scholar, recognizing him as an “exceptional young scientist.” In the next year, he won the National Science Foundation CAREER Award as well as an Fluorescence Young Investigator Award from the Biophysical Society. He received the distinction of being an Cottrell Scholar due to his “high-quality research” and “dedication to the task of teaching undergraduates” as well as an Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow for his “outstanding promise.” As of 2005, Ha received an election to the American Physical Society and was designated an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the fields that comprise Biophysics as well as Structural Biology and Structural Biology, a post that he holds to this day. He was awarded the Michael and Kate Barany Award of the Biophysical Society in 2007 for “his development and application of novel single molecule physical methods and techniques, and for his ground-breaking discoveries in the single molecule research field.” As of 2011, Ha was awarded the Ho-Am Prize in Science for his “pioneering application of fluorescence resonance energy transfer techniques to reveal the behavior and physical characteristics of single biomolecules”; the award has been “widely regarded as the Korean equivalent of the Nobel Prizes.” He was named 2011 Scientist of the Year, by Korean American Scientists and Engineers’ Association (KSEA) and the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST).

Taekjip Ha is one of the richest Biophysicist from South Korea. According to our analysis, Wikipedia, Forbes & Business Insider, Taekjip Ha 's net worth $5 Million. (Last Update: December 11, 2023)

Taekjip Ha (born on 20th February 1968 in Seoul, South Korea) is a South Korean American biophysicist, who is an Bloomberg named Distinguished Professor in Biophysics as well as Biomedical Engineering within Johns Hopkins University. The professor was earlier known as the Gutgsell Professor of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign where he was the primary investigator of the Single Molecule Nanometry group. He is also an Howard Hughes Medical Institute investigator.

He earned an B.S. degree in physics from Seoul National University in 1990 when he became a part of the physics department at the University of California, Berkeley where he began his studies in the atomic physics lab at the lab of Raymond Jeanloz in Berkeley’s geophysics department. He was involved in a research project to put carbon and nitrogen under extreme pressures in order to make an alloy that is more durable than diamonds. In the course of this work the researcher had to take a time off to travel from Berkeley in South Korea for a year to meet the South Korean military obligations. After his return, Ha changed his research areas and became a part of the laboratory at the lab of Daniel Chemla, a prominent scientist who is well-known for his research of quantum optics and semiconductors. After joining the Chemla lab, Ha began working closely with scientist Shimon Weiss to develop an optical microscope that scans near-field that was equipped with a tiny aperture and the ability to analyze the properties of a substance with high spatial and time resolution. He later earned both his M.A. as well as Ph.D. from Berkeley and also completed postdoctoral research with Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and Stanford University with advisor Steven Chu. He was appointed to the faculty at The University of Illinois in 2000 as an assistant Professor within the Department of Physics and Center for Biophysics and Computational Biology.

In July 2015, it was announced that Ha would move to Johns Hopkins University as a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor. The Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship program was established in 2013, by a gift from Michael Bloomberg to recruit faculty with considerable accomplishments as interdisciplinary researchers and in excellence in teaching. Ha holds joint appointments in the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine’s department of Biophysics and Biophysical Chemistry, the Zanvyl Krieger School of Arts and Sciences’s Department of Biophysics, the Whiting School of Engineering’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. Through the Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship, Ha will be teaching a new undergraduate interdisciplinary biophysics course and will be engaged in the university’s Individualized Health Initiative.
