He concluded his career by winning in the United States amateur (AAU) Super Heavyweight championships in 2000. He defeated 1999 Champion Calvin Brock in the Olympic qualification, however, he was defeated 5:6 in the rematch, and was forced to choose an alternate. He also defeated Dominic Guinn in the amateurs.
