Her literary work has been published extensively in a range of publications in Ukraine as well as magazines like Dzvin (Lviv), Kyiv (Kyiv), Gorozhanin (Mykolaiv), Dyvoslovo (Kyiv), Art-Line (Kyiv), Vitchyzna (Kyiv), Kurier Kryvbasu (Kryviy Rig) as well as Vezha (Kirovograd) as well as almanacs, such as Borviy (Mykolaiv), Buzsky Gard (Mykolaiv) the Osvityanski vitryla (Mykolaiv) and in poetry anthologies like Pochatki (Kyiv, Smoloskyp Press 1998) and The Mykolaiv Oberih (Mykolaiv, Mozhlyvosti Kimmerii Press, 2004). Svetlana’s co-translations of the poetry of Dmytro Kremin, winner of the Taras Shevchenko Ukrainian National Literary Prize, have appeared in well-known literary magazines such as London Magazine (London, England, 2007), Prism International (Vancouver, Canada, 2007), and Hayden’s Ferry Review (Arizona, US, 2009), in the trilingual collection Two Shores (Mykolaiv, Iryna Gudym Publisher, 2007) and in the book Poems From The Scythian Wild Field (Ekstasis Editions, Victoria, B.C., Canada, 2016) — a selection of the poetry of Dmytro Kremin translated into English by Svetlana Ischenko and Russell Thornton
A number of Ukrainian composers and singers have created songs using Svetlana’s poetry for lyrics—Viktor Ures, Viktor Piatygorsky, Olexandr Nezhygai, Olena Nikishenko, Olexandr Goncharenko, Anna Oliynykova, and others.
In the span of several months (1988-2001) Svetlana was a stage actress at the Mykolaiv Ukrainian Theatre of Drama and Musical Comedy. She played many important characters from the classic Ukrainian and European plays, including Marusia (Marusia Churai written by L.Kostenko), Catherine (Catherine by T. Shevchenko), Motrya (Kaydash’s Family by I. Nechuy-Levytsky), Yaryna (Where There are people Then there’s Sin from I. Tobilevych), Ryna (Myna Mazaylo by M. Kulish), Prince (Dregs by Janusz Glovatsky), Julie (The Family Weekend by Jean Poiret) and the Countess Rosina (Marriage to Figaro written by P. Beaumarchais). Svetlana has also written a variety of lyrics and poems for thematic plays, thematic programs and musicals for her theatre, the Mykolaiv Ukrainian Theatre of Drama and Musical Comedy.

Svetlana Viktorivna (Ukrainian: Svitlana Viktorivna Ishchenko born on 30th July 1969 in Mykolaiv, Ukraine) -poet, translator, stage actor and teacher. She is an active participant in The Ukrainian Writers Association (1997) as well as The National Writers Ukrainian Union (1998).
The school she attended was Mykolaiv public school, number 38. Svetlana continued to pursue her childhood passion for music in the Mykolaiv Rimsky Korsakov Music School and graduated with a degree in piano in the year 1986. She earned an College Diploma in Acting, Stage Directing , and Visual art in the Mykolaiv State College of Culture in 1988. She then attended in the Mykolaiv Branch of the Kyiv State University of Culture and Arts and graduated with a BA in Leisure Management and Pedagogy in 1998.
In 2001 Svetlana immigrated to Canada. She lives in North Vancouver, British Columbia. Svetlana continues to keep in close contact with Ukraine. She writes in Ukrainian and English.
