Since 2001, Broz is the head of the group GARIWO (technically an offshoot to the Italian non-profit organization Gardens of the Righteous Worldwide) with its most popular programme Education on Civil Courage (She defines it as “The willingness and capability to refuse and resist against, to challenge and end the violence is the misuse of power by private or public sector or individuals who deliberately fail to perform their social obligations or misuse the tools of their economic, political or social power to their personal advantage, whether in the media or academia, the ecclesiastical, or family domains”) that are designed to counter the prevalent ethnic intolerance or violence, corruption or any other form of discrimination and build a strong democratic society within the West Balkans by inspiring civil bravery, particularly for children and educating them on the practical skills needed to be a effective opposition Svetlana is regarded (and equally feared and rebuked) as a renowned advocates for human rights for those those who are being vilified for their bravery to stand up the fight against war criminals as well as post-war profiteers and war criminals. Her colleague and Director of the Summer School of Civil Courage that Svetlana created and designed the curriculum, Prof. Dusko Kondor was killed for his moral courage on the 22nd of February. 2007 Broz established in memory of Dusko in his memory, the year-long Dusko Kondor Civil Courage Awards. Through the six years of existence, the highly prestigious award was awarded an award to thirty laureates. The laureates are now recognized as examples of bravery and civic mindedness. The annual ceremony which were attended by more than 1,000 young people are widely covered by local TV stations and other media. The coverage of these events always creates a lively discussion within the society on civil courage and discrimination, civil rights and other social issues. Since her first programme that focuses on Education on Civil Courage in the West Balkans she was able to give over 300 public lectures across 90 towns across B&H that were attended by over 100.000 people; and organised 12 eight-day seminars as well as seven three-day seminars that were which were attended by over more than 450 students from 84 cities in five West Balkan countries; organized 10 student meetings with ambassadors, and 26 round tables. She also edited 10 thirty-minute documentaries on TV in the show called “Good People in an Evil Time” that was broadcast on Serbia, B&H and Montenegro. Her editing and publishing experience includes published 14 books about civil courage that have been translated into different languages. Broz is currently developing screenplays and editing documentaries for a new TV series titled “The Best Among Us” as powerful examples of ethics and civics that will benefit present and future generations of Europe, the West Balkans, Europe and beyond. Broz has written two works: Good People in an evil Time Stories of Compliment and Resistance during Bosnian War, translated by Tom Butler and Bosnian War, translated by Ellen Elias-Bursac Other Press, New York 2003. Broz is currently heading the local branch of the Gardens of the Righteous Worldwide (GARIWO) non-governmental organization. She is the founder of “Education Towards Civil Courage”, a series of seminars designed to teach adolescents from all over the Balkans how to stand up to corruption and social and political divisiveness. In 2007, the organization began research and preparation for the foundation of a Center for Civil Courage in Bosnia- Herzegovina.
Broz was honored in 2011 by French President Nicolas Sarkozy with the award of the Ordre National du Merite.
As of 2000, the actress relocated in 2000 to Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina permanently. The reason is, she said in an interview with the Bosnian the daily paper Nezavisne Novine: “After the NATO intervention, I moved to Sarajevo. Twenty years ago, Belgrade was a European metropolis, a city that I loved a lot. Unfortunately, in a way that city has lost its soul. Sarajevo, despite going through a four-year-long siege of hell, kept its soul intact. I love Bosnia-Herzegovina, I feel as this is my homeland. Last year I even became a citizen.”

Svetlana Broz (born 7 July 1955) is a Bosnian author and doctor who is a specialist in cardiology. She is the daughter of Yugoslav chief Josip Broz Tito.
Her graduation from Belgrade Medical School in 1980 and worked as an cardiologist at the Military Medical Academy (VMA) from 1981 to 1999 and then volunteered her services upon the beginning of the conflict within Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992. The new project she is working on concerns the inter- ethnic marriages which were arranged during the conflict. In the midst of the conflict that erupted in Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1992 she was able to volunteer as cardiologists in the war zones. Every time she visited, her patients had to tell her that their survival was due to people who had the courage to speak out against the violence committed by people belonging to their ethnicity, and in January 1993 she began conducting interviews to write a book about these personal experiences of people during the Bosnian War. The book was released by Bosnia and Herzegovina in 1999 under the title Dobri Ljudi U Tsynu Zla as well in 2003, in the United States under the title Good People in an Evil Time.
She is an honorary citizen of the city of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina, her mother’s hometown. In 2007 Centro Educativo Italo Svizzero, in Rimini, Italy awarded her the La Bussola dell’ Educazione “Margherita Zoebeli”; in 2003 the City Government of Milan, Italy awarded her L’Ambrogino d’Oro and dedicated a tree and stone to her in the World Garden of the Righteous.
