Since 2004, Riess Passer has been director of business for the Wustenrot- Gruppe.

Following a series of disagreements over her political mentor Haider in summer 2002 (the known as Knittelfeld Putsch), she quit all her post, along with the finance Minister Karl-Heinz Grasser and the party spokesperson in the parliament, Peter Westenthaler. After the elections in 2002 the Vice Chancellor was elected on a temporary base until the alliance of OVP as well as FPO became renewed the beginning of 2003. Since then, she has been absent from the political arena.
