Susan Chepkemei (born 25 June 1975 in Komol, West Pokot District) is a female Kenyan long- distance athlete who runs in the 10,000-meter and marathon. The year 2001 was the time she was the winner of the Rotterdam Marathon and came first in the Great North Run, as in addition to winning the silver medal at the World Half Marathon Championships. She also won an award of silver at 2002’s Commonwealth Games in the 10,000 meters.
“The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has been informed by Athletics Kenya (AK) that the female athlete, Susan Chepkemei has been found guilty of the following doping violation under IAAF Rules: Presence of the prohibited substance Salbutamol (S3. Beta-2 Agonists) in her doping control sample (IAAF Rule 32.2a). This doping violation relates to an IAAF out-of-competition doping control conducted on 10.09.07 in Nairobi, KEN.”
Chepkemei was prescribed the medication for asthma Salbutamol by her physician after she was pregnant and developed pneumonia. As a result the ban was reduced by one year. Chepkemei began her return in the beginning of 2009.

Chepkemei participated in the junior race at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in 1990 and 1992, where she placed third and 16th, respectively. At an adult race, she took part in the marathon race from 2000 and 1998, her most successful result was a silver medal in 2000. Her marathon debut was during the 1998 Berlin Marathon and finished second. She took home the Parelloop 10K in held in the Netherlands in 1998 and 2000.
