Susan Cadogan is one of the most popular and richest Singer who was born on November 2, 1951 in Kingston, Kingston Parish, Jamaica. Cadogan was the child of the singer Lola Cadogan, who released many 78rpm singles featuring devotional songs in the 1950s. She spent the majority of her early life in Belize which is the country where her family was based from before returning to Jamaica. She was an assistant librarian and was offered on a position in the library at the University of the West Indies in Mona. Her singing talents resulted in her recording her debut song, “Love My Life” for Jamaican Broadcasting DJ Jerry Lewis who was the lover of one of Cadogan’s friends from school. Lee “Scratch” Perry was working in the Studio at that time and was awed by the voice of Cadogan enough to record an album of music with her. and also changing her name to Susan.

Cadogan was back to work at her library job however she returned as a musician in 1982. She had several smashes in Jamaica with songs that were covers of “Tracks of My Tears” and “Piece of My Heart” as well as the 1983 hit song “(You Know How To Make Me) Feel So Good” which was a duet with Ruddy Thomas. Following her return to her job as a librarian throughout her 20s and 30s, she resurfaced with her Mad Professor’s Album Soulful Reggae in 1992. Another albumcalled Chemistry of Love, was released in 1995.

In 2016 she released a five-song EP, Take Me Back, and in 2017 released “Love Story”, a duet with Ken Boothe.

One of her first singles for Perry the version of Millie’s soul classic, “Hurt So Good” (featuring bassist Boris Gardiner and the Zap Pow Horns) The single was released with little impact to little effect in Jamaica on Perry’s brand new ‘”Perries” recording label. The single it was issued to the UK by Dennis Harris’s DIP International label, and it topped in the UK Reggae Chart. Magnet Records picked up the single, and it went on to make it into the top five spots on the UK Singles Chart, with Cadogan traveling across the pond to London in order to help promote her hit single and even an appearance in Top of the Pops. Cadogan later signed directly to Magnet who released an official follow-up single with the Pete Waterman-produced “Love Me Baby”, that reached the top spot in July 1975. However, it was her final UK success. Perry however, in collaboration, came up with Birmingham-based company Black Wax to release an unofficial follow-up to the song – an unremixed version of “Love My Life”. The singles were also made available through Klik and Lucky to try to make money the market, but none of them were charted.
