Sun Shuwei is one of the most popular and richest Diver who was born on February 1, 1976 in Jieyang, China. Sun Shuwei (simplified Chinese: Sun Shu Wei ; traditional Chinese: Sun Shu Wei ; pinyin: Sun Shuwei ; Jyutping: Syun1 Suk1 Wai5 ; born February 1, 1976 in Shantou, Guangdong) is a famous Chinese diver.
Prior to that, the Olympic Games in Atlanta in 1996, under rules of the nation, the performances of athletes who won medals in the Olympic Games would be counted into the provincial scores for the China’s National Games held in the subsequent year. This meant that competition between provinces was intense. The national team of divers took the decision to hold a selection contest to determine which national teams will be sent for the Olympics. Two rounds were held of competition with the first place, second and third were awarded 7,5 and 4, respectively. At the end, Sun’s closest competitors, Tian Liang from Shaanxi and Xiao Hailliang from Hubei both won third and first place however, the latter, for some reason, Sun himself was able to win the second prize twice. In the end, Sun didn’t make it to Atlanta. The outcome was shocking to the nation at the moment, especially since the Xiao Hailiang team and Tian Liang won only the third and fourth positions in that Olympics. The event was Sun’s lasting regret.
Sun was retired officially in 2001. Later, in 2002, he became a coach in national diving team. In 2005, he returned to Guangdong and became a coach in the provincial diving team there.
He was struck by retina damage in 1993, and had to take time off for a period. In 1994 He returned to the pool for diving after having surgery. In Diving World Cup 1995, he once again beat all his opponents, and led the second round by greater than 50 percent.

Sun began diving in the year 1984. Being a skilled athlete, he joined the China national team for diving in 1989. The year 1990 was the time he took home the gold medal on the 10-meter platform at Asian Games. The following year, he was awarded gold in both Diving World Cup as well as World Diving Championship.
He took home an Olympic gold medal at the 10 meter platform race in the 1992 Summer Olympics when he was only 16 years old.
After that, Sun was still active in all kinds of competitions. In 1998 and 1999, together with Tian Liang, he won 10 meter platform double diving in Diving World Cup and World Diving Championship. However, due to chronic injury, he did not attend the Olympic Games in Sydney.
