Summer Edward (born 10 March 1986) is a Trinidadian American writer as well as a children’s editor, teacher as well as a literary activist and literature specialist who is based in the USA. In 2010 at the age of 24, she established Anansesem ezine, which was the first publication of children’s literature within the region of English as a spoken language. She served as the editor- in-chief for 10 years. She is among the Caribbean’s newest literary editors. The year she was born, she received an Master of Education degree in reading, writing, and literacy at the University of Pennsylvania. At the time, she served as the graduate assistant of the Dr. Lawrence Sipe, then North American editor-in-chief of the journal Children’s Literature in Education, and a prominent academic in the field of literature for children. It was during Sipe’s courses that she first became interested in publishing children’s books as a potential career. She was a straight-A student throughout her time at university and is a lifetime Roothbert Fellow and a lifetime Phi Beta Kappa membership.
