Stuart Duff is one of the most popular and richest Scottish footballer who was born on January 23, 1982 in Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom. Stuart Duff (born 23 January 1982) is a Scottish professional footballer who most recently played with Inverurie Loco Works in the Highland Football League. He was mostly central midfielder however his versatility allowed him to be able to play in all positions in midfield and defensive.
On January 8, 2008 Levein said to Duff that he had the freedom to quit Tannadice and join an alternative club. Duff was released on 17 January after having played 170 games for Tannadice and scoring four times. Duff began his training with Aberdeen, a fellow SPL club Aberdeen and a temporary transfer to his hometown club was confirmed the next day. This made him only the third person to make the move to Tannadice to Pittodrie within 18 months, after Lee Miller and Lee Mair. In the first six weeks after his arrival the club, however, Duff was one of many players that under manager Jimmy Calderwood threatened to release at the close of the season because of the team’s lack of performance. Then, in May of 2008 Duff rather signed a 2-year extension to his contract with Aberdeen.
After his release by Aberdeen, Duff had a trial spell with St Johnstone and turned down an approach from St Mirren before signing for Inverness CT. Duff agreed a deal that was to run until the end of the 2010–11 season. Throughout the 2010/11 season he was a regular starter for Caley, and featured in most of their surprising results. These included a 1–1 draw against Rangers at Ibrox and a 2–2 draw with Celtic at Parkhead. His contract expired with ICT at the end of the 2010/11 season, and he stated his desire to stay with Inverness and said he would accept their contract offer after returning from holiday. In the summer of 2011, a contract was offered, but no deal was agreed and the contract offer was eventually withdrawn.
In November 2011, Duff agreed to join Qormi, in the Maltese Premier League, for the remainder of the season.
In the 2005-06 season, with Gordon Chisholm the new manager, Duff played more first team matches, making 29 league games. In February the month of February, Duff alleged he was assaulted during a match by Hearts midfielder Rudi Skacel. The claim was repeated in the next month in the presence of Celtic Captain Neil Lennon. There was no action taken to Skacel in either of the incidents. Duff scored a crucial strike in United’s 1-1 victory against Rangers at Ibrox during the season which was instrumental in helping United to avoid being relegated. Duff began the 2006-07 season in the midfield position of an attack under Craig Brewster and scored once however, he was employed in various defensive positions during the time of Craig Levein.

After being trained as a player in Dundee United’s youth programme and then made the move to professional football with this club on July of 1999. He made his debut by the manager at the time, Alex Smith in December 2001 and was used as a right wingback in a game against Kilmarnock He was able to play nine times that season. He was awarded the Young player of the month award. The 2002-03 season was when Duff was in his most successful season of league games and played 34 times. In the time that Ian McCall was appointed at the beginning of the 2003-04 season Duff was more frequently in the substitute role, appearing only 18 league games. In that time, Duff was part of the Scotland under-21 team that just missed out on being able to qualify to play in the 2004 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship and saw Scotland defeating Croatia at the Play-off. In the subsequent year, Duff played 25 league games, which earned him the opportunity to sign a new contract of three years in the month of March 2005. In the following months, Duff was part of the United team that fell narrowly against Celtic at the Scottish Cup final, with his substitute appearance in the 83rd minute winning him the runners-up award.
He was an ex- Scotland under-21 internationalist who played ten times between 2002 between 2002 and 2003.
