Stuart Baxter was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire, England on the 16th of August 1953. He was the son of a Scottish dad, Bill Baxter, was an experienced professional footballer, and was in the squad of Wolverhampton Wanderers and later for Aston Villa. Stuart was born in England as his father was the coach for Aston Villa, before the family relocated to Scotland and Bill held managerial positions with East Fife and Raith Rovers. At the time, Stuart was educated at Buckhaven High School in Fife. Because of his origins, Baxter is variously described as English, Scottish or an Anglo-Scot in the media. Baxter has questioned his identity, stating “If I’m mentioned for a job in Scotland, they call me a Scot. If I’m mentioned for a job in England, they call me an Englishman. I call myself a European”. Baxter has stated that he is “a mongrel” and “proud to be British, although I feel more European”.
Baxter came back to Scandinavia to begin his coaching career. He was a part of Orebro Sk’s youth team. He was appointed manager in 1986. became the manager of the minor Norwegian team IF Skarp. In the following year, he was offered the managerial job of a higher level at Portuguese club Vitoria de Setubal before returning to Sweden for a three-year period with Halmstads BK between 1988 and 1991. In his first season with Halmstad they were guided by him to advancement to the Allsvenskan however the team was dropped at the end of his time. Baxter relocated to Japan as the head coach Sanfrecce Hiroshima, between 1992 until 1994, before moving to Vissel Kobe in 1997. He was appointed manager of Kobe within a few days of an earthquake devastated the city . He stayed for two weeks in a temporary caravan in the club’s car park.
Baxter was hired by the Football Association to coach the England Under-19 team in 2002. After two years, he was hired as South Africa’s manager. By autumn 2005, he quit this role having failed to qualify for the 2006 World Cup. He later had another short spell at Vissel Kobe before moving back to Helsingborg, this time as manager in 2006. He took the Swedish side past the group stages of the UEFA Cup in 2007 but he resigned at the end of the year.
At the beginning of 2008, Baxter was appointed manager of Finland on a two- year contract. In January 2009 it was announced that he has signed an extended contract that will keep him in charge of the Finland team through the 2012 European Championships campaign.
In the course of playing at South Melbourne, Baxter was selected to be part of the Australian national team. He was a part of Australia in unofficial games against Queensland XI and Partizan Belgrade in 1979. Because he did not have Australian citizenshipyet, he was required to be removed from the team in order to play New Zealand when the match was classified as an official international.

Stuart William Baxter (born 16 August 1953) is a soccer manager as well as a former footballer who served as chief coach for the South African national football team. Born in England with Scottish parents, and grew to both nations, Baxter has played professional football for various club that were in England, Scotland, Australia, Sweden and in the United States. He previously managed the teams of Sweden, Norway, Portugal, Japan and South Africa. Internationally, he’s been in charge of South Africa twice as well as Finland as well as the England under-19 squad.
Baxter began his life in the club Preston North End in 1973. He signed with Scottish team Dundee United in October 1975 However, he was dismissed in September of the same year after playing just for reserve teams. He came back home to England and joined Stockport County. Unsurprisingly, AIK finished bottom of the group. After two years, he moved to Norwegian side Lyn Oslo.
