Stuart Bannigan (born 17 September 1992) is a Scottish professional footballer and captain of the Scottish Championship club Partick Thistle. A part of the youth team at Partick Thistle Bannigan began his professional season as a loan player at the time Scottish Second Division Ayr United. He also been a member of the Scotland U21 national team.

Bannigan together with his teammate Stephen O’Donnell, was called to the squad to join Billy Stark for the Scotland U21 team. Bannigan made his debut in the match on his for the international team, which was an 1–1 draw with Greece U21. Bannigan was also selected to play an under-21 game against England.

Bannigan is renowned for his excellent passing ability, creative instinct and leadership ability. He has been described as a tough and tenacious player who is a consistently strong midfield player. Bannigan has severely struggled with knee injuries. He was sidelined for the second half of the 2015/16 campaign, the entire of the 2016/17 season and most of the 2017/18 football season and made a gradual return after 2018.

Bannigan decided to leave Partick Thistle at the end of his contract in May 2016, having rejected their offer of a new deal. However, on 27 June 2016, Bannigan reversed his decision to leave Firhill, and committed to Partick Thistle for a further two years. As of the 2018–19 season, Bannigan became the new Club Captain, as Kris Doolan returned to his role as Vice-Captain, having stood in for Abdul Osman for the previous season. In late 2018, Bannigan signed an 18-month extension to remain at Partick Thistle until 2020.

The 2012-13 campaign saw Bannigan was riding the rise scoring his debut goal with Queens Park at Hampden Park in a 5-4 shootout at the end of round two of the Scottish Challenge Cup. The next week on August 25, 2012 Bannigan sparked an opening score in the direction of Kris Doolan before scoring the goal himself in a 3-0 victory over Dumbarton. In a game against Falkirk on October 27, 2012, Bannigan sustained an injury to his leg in the first quarter and was substituted. After forty-eight hours, Bannigan announced that the fact that he had passed his test for driving. Although the injury was quite serious initially, Bannigan was able to get away from the injury which he described in terms of “relieved”. The next day, on the 24th of November 2012 Bannigan scored his first goals in the League of 2012 during a 2-0 win against Livingston. The following game on 15 December 2012 Bannigan scored his third score of the campaign during a 3-2 win against Raith Rovers. Bannigan was named the club’s youngest player of the season award for 2012/13. He was substituted in the extra-time portion during The 2013. Scottish Challenge Cup Final, which Thistle was defeated by Queen of the South. After the conclusion of the 2012-13 season Bannigan was selected as a member of The PFA Scotland The Team of the Year. He signed a two-year contract with Thistle in June of 2013.

On the 4th of November, 2010, Bannigan became a member of Scottish Second Division club Ayr United for a month-long loan. Bannigan made debut in the Scottish Second Division against Dumbarton on the 13th of November, 2010. After just five games, the loan was extended to the close to the 2010 season. In September 2013, Bannigan was awarded the Scottish Premiership Young Player award. On 14 May 2014, Bannigan signed a new two-year deal with the Jags. Bannigan made his 100th league appearance for Partick Thistle against Hamilton Academical at Firhill Stadium on 23 August 2014.
