Pavletic (born 25 January 1956) is a doctor from Croatia and researcher in hematology as well as oncology, whose work is known for his part in the creation of guidelines that are consensus-based for clinical trials in chronic Graft versus-host disorder (GVHD).
Pavletic manages a variety of clinical trials related to persistent GVHD within the National Cancer Institute at NIH. He is the editor in chief of the very first book on GVHD called “Chronic Graft Versus Host Disease: Interdisciplinary Management”, which was published in the year 2009. Based on Scopus, Pavletic has published more than 200 papers that have been peer reviewed in journals. Six articles in 2005 on an international consensus project to conduct clinical trials in chronic GVHD were cited more than 1600 times by peer reviewed research.
The United States Embassy in Zagreb, Croatia, granted Pavletic a United States Government stipend to spend six weeks at the University Hospital Centre Zagreb, Croatia, in 2013, to assist in the establishment of a multidisciplinary center for the treatment of chronic GVHD resulting from allogeneic stem cell transplantations. In 2013 the Zagreb chronic GVHD team was awarded an international peer-reviewed grant through the Unity Through Knowledge Fund (UKF).
Pavletic was recognized in May 2007 by the Croatian Society of Oncology for his efforts at initiating an NIH-European-Croatian expert consortium with the goal of developing strategies for the national cancer control program in Croatia. This partnership led to the conclusion of an agreement in the year 2010 that was signed between United States and Croatia to promote cooperation in education and education in the field of the field of clinical oncology.

Pavletic (born Zivko Pavletic) was born in Zagreb, Croatia, where Pavletic obtained his M.D. at Zagreb’s University of Zagreb School of Medicine in 1979. He completed an internship in clinical bone marrow transplantation, in 1992 in the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center as well as in the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle, Washington. In 1995, he finished an internist residency in the University of Nebraska Medical Center in which he also completed cancer and hematology fellowships during 1997. From 1999 to 2002, he was director of the allogeneic stem cell Transplantation program in the University of Nebraska.
In October 2006, Pavletic was awarded his National Cancer Institute (NCI) Director’s Individual Merit Award for his achievements in the creation of national and international standard guidelines for clinical trials for chronic GVHD which allowed researchers to study one of the severe cancer treatments that has late effects for patients who are already healed. Six Croatian newspapers and The Voice of America reported on the award.
Pavletic is president of Hrvatska ura (HURA), a Washington, D.C.-based initiative established in 2010 with the goal of building cultural, economic and scientific ties between the United States and Croatia by working with the Croatian American community. He also serves as vice president of the Association of Croatian American Professionals and is president of its Medicine and Health Sciences Section.
