Stephen Joseph “Steve” Walford (born 5 January 1958) is an English former manager and player of the English football team. Walford was a defender for various clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Norwich City, West Ham United and West Bromwich Albion altogether.

On September 18, 2015, he was back in the club game after being appointed the assistant manager for Neil Lennon at Bolton Wanderers in the place of Johan Mjallby who quit due to personal reasons. He was only there for seven months as the Assistant Manager in Bolton and on April 14, 2016 he resigned from the club along and Garry Parker following the club’s demotion out of the Championship.

After a brief stint working at Wealdstone, Walford returned to Wycombe to work as O’Neill’s assistant. He had previously worked with in Norwich City, Leicester City, Celtic, Aston Villa and Sunderland. On November 5, 2013, O’Neill was appointed manager of the Republic of Ireland national football team and Walford joined O’Neill’s coaching staff. Walford was dismissed from his Ireland coaching staff at the end of 2018, due to personal reasons.

Walford started his career as a centre-half. His football career began with Tottenham Hotspur in 1974. While at Spurs the player made just two appearances before being signed by Arsenal to join under the former Spurs director Terry Neill in a deal valued at PS25,000. Walford was later a part-time player as a substitute for Arsenal’s victory in the 1979 FA Cup Final side. He made nine appearances with the club and scored four goals. Arsenal. Gunners in all. He was released in 1981 and was transferred from Norwich City to Norwich City for PS175,000. While at Norwich He helped the club keep them out of relegation. He also saw them elevated up to First Division.

After 108 games with Norwich, Walford moved on to West Ham United in 1983 for a cost of £160,000 and he played 115 times for the Hammers throughout the following four years. At the close the course of the West Ham career, he was loaned out to Huddersfield Town, Gillingham and West Bromwich Albion. He went to China in 1989 to join Lai Sun of Hong Kong in 1989, before returning back to England in the following year to join Wycombe Wanderers under Martin O’Neill in the year following.
