Stephen Robert Staggs (born May 6 1951) is an ex- Major League Baseball second baseman who played for two seasons. He played in 72 games for the Toronto Blue Jays during the 1977 Toronto Blue Jays season and 47 games with the Oakland Athletics during the 1978 Oakland Athletics season.
On the 25th of March 1978 on March 25, 1978, the Blue Jays traded Staggs to the Oakland Athletics for Sheldon Mallory.
Staggs began the opening 4 games in the 1978 season as the Oakland Athletics’ starting second baseman. He was primarily an infielder back-up typically used as a late innings defensive replacement, though there were occasions when he would be a spot start. In his limited playing time, Staggs hit .244 with no HR and zero RBI during 47 games played by the Athletics. He was sent to the minors before July’s end.

Staggs was selected in the Kansas City Royals in the third round of the 1971 MLB Draft, and remained in their minor league program until in the season of 1976. In November of 1976 Staggs was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays selected Staggs in the 1976 MLB expansion draft.
Staggs had his Major League Baseball debut on July 1, 1977. He hit 2-5 in a loss of 11-8 against the Texas Rangers. The first hit of his career was a homer against Rangers pitching coach Doyle Alexander. Staggs was a regular in 72 games for Toronto Batting .259 with two hits and 28 RBI.
Staggs would not play in MLB again. He spent the 1979 season with the Denver Bears of the American Association before retiring.
