Steven Wayne Ratzer (born September 9th 1953, in Paterson, New Jersey) is an American former Major League Baseball (MLB) player who pitched in the Montreal Expos in 1980 and 1981.
Ratzer completed the 1981 season in his team, the Denver Bears. Ratzer was traded in funds with cash by the New York Mets for Frank Taveras on the 11th of December 1981. He ended his time in the Tidewater Tides, the Mets’ AAA affiliate in the International League in 1982, then re-joining the Bears which were at the time being the Chicago White Sox AAA affiliate in 1983.
Ratzer was a part of the Major League debut on the last day of the season in 1980 as the starter when the Expos played against the Philadelphia Phillies. In the fourth inning, the bottom of the inning the pitcher was dismissed to be a pinch-hitter having allowed five runs over nine hits. The Expos were able to rally, winning the game over 10 innings. He was left with a no-decision during his debut.

He was accepted as an minor league free agent from the Expos on June 11th the 11th of June, 1975. He started playing right away at the level of rookie league and, by 1977, he was working his way into the Expos’ AAA affiliate in the American Association, the Denver Bears and remained there until the end of the season in 1980.
Between, Ratzer played winter ball with the Aguilas del Zulia and Tiburones de La Guaira teams from the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League during three seasons that ran from 1978 to 1982. He also played for Dominican Republic’s Leones del Escogido in the winter of 1981 as well as in game 9 in the 1982 Caribbean Series.
In 1981, Ratzer appeared in 12 games, all in relief. On April 28 at the Philadelphia Phillies, he relieved starter Charlie Lea, pitching a 1–2–3 fifth inning. Because the starting pitcher did not pitch the requisite five innings to earn the victory, the official scorer awarded the win to Ratzer, which proved to be the only win of his major league career. On May 14 at the Los Angeles Dodgers, he relieved Bill Gullickson pitching another 1–2–3 eighth inning. However, he recorded his only loss when he surrendered a lead-off, walk-off home run to Pedro Guerrero in the next inning. Three days later Ratzer was sent back down to the minors.
