Steve Meretzky is one of the most popular and richest Game Designer who was born on May 1, 1957 in Yonkers, New York, United States. Steven Eric Meretzky (born May 1st 1957) is an American video game designer. He is most well-known for the creation of Infocom games during the 1980s. This included working with the writer Douglas Adams on the interactive fiction version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy which was among the first games recognized as “platinum” by the Software Publishers Association. In the following years, he also created his Spellcasting trilogy, which is the most popular adventure game series of Legend Entertainment. He has been involved in nearly all aspects that game design, from concept to production , quality assurance as well as box designs.
The year 1994 was the time that Meretzky founded Boffo Games and came up with titles such as the story-based puzzle game Hodj ‘n’Podj and the comedy about detectives The Space Bar up until Boffo Games shut its doors in 1997. He also served as a consultant to Blizzard Entertainment’s cancelled adventure game Warcraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans.
Around the year 2000, Meretzky joined WorldWinner as a game advisor and Principal Game Designer. Meretzky is also a charter member of the Computer Game Developers Association, and a frequent speaker at industry conferences such as GDC.
Several years later, Meretzky joined Blue Fang Games to work on the popular Zoo Tycoon franchise. He was employed as a Vice President of Design at social media game developer Playdom from 2008 to 2013, at which point he became Vice President of Creative at GSN Games. In November 2016 he became Vice President of Games at Swedish mobile game company King.
In The Mind Forever Voyage Mind Forever Voyaging Meretzky tried to address social issues however, Infocom’s popularity was falling, and 1988’s Zork Zero was his last title in the company.

Meretzky was born at Yonkers, New York. His father was educated to be an accountant however, he went on to have working for over 25 years selling automobile hardware. His mother was an accountant. The young man completed his studies at Yonkers High School in 1975. He then went to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, where he received the degree of Bachelor of Science on construction administration in the year 1979. Following a stint in construction for 2 years, the year 1981 Meretzky made the decision to pursue a job in the field of game testing at Infocom. He joined Infocom in 1983 and was a full-time author (an “Implementor”), writing the script for Planetfall and establishing the infamous iconic robot companion “Floyd”.
The year 1984 was when he was involved in his most well-known collaboration together with Douglas Adams on the computer game version of Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy that became one of the most popular games of the time. Another game that was popular included Leather Goddesses of Phobos, with its shrewd writing that challenged the boundaries of art. Interviews with him revealed that Meretzky admitted that he first written his name down on a board for fun however, he the idea was followed by an invitation to create a game that went to the name.
His keen wit, prose, and coding skill made him one of the first interactive fiction writers (along with Dave Lebling) admitted to the Science Fiction Writers of America, and in September 1999, PC Gamer magazine named Meretzky as one of their twenty-five “Game Gods”; those who have made an indelible mark on the history of computer gaming.
