Steven James “Steve” McGavin (born 24 January 1969) is an English former professional footballer. He is currently director of recruitment for Ipswich Town’s Academy.

Steve has returned to England after a stint in Colchester United’s department for commercial. He is currently director of recruitment at the academy of Ipswich Town and was appointed to the position in August 2012. In 2017, he joined the club’s local rivals Norwich City.

After being let go from Colchester on July 1, 2001, the club was able to return to non-League football, and signed with Dagenham & Redbridge. Later, he moved to Harwich & Parkeston (where he was manager of the team), Stanway Rovers, Clacton Town, and Bury Town.

In North Walsham, McGavin played non-League football with Sudbury Town in his late teens and early 20s before signing with Colchester United for PS10,000 in July 1992. With 17 goals over the 58 matches, he was accepted to Birmingham City for PS150,000 in January 1994. But, after 23 games and just two goals he was traded to Wycombe Wanderers for PS175,000 in March 1995.

In January 1999, he had been removed by Wycombe In February, he was signed by Southend United on a free transfer, but was unable to score in 11 games. He was signed by Northampton Town in August that year, but he did not appear in the first team. In October, he was back at Colchester where he played 75 appearances in two seasons.
